Sun Flower Run

Sunflower Run 2019 Pleasanton was one for the books. We went out there ready to run but not every race we come out with SO MUCH #RaceSwag Thanks to SunFlower Org. for putting on such a fun race. The kids run was so much fun. We really enjoy it when kids run for a good cause.

THE FIT Potato RUNNING CLUB

The FIT Potato Running Club at Sunflower Run 2019

The FIT Potato Running Team had some great times out there.

Coach Juan finished 1st overall followed by Coach Francisco Gomez placing 2nd overall.

“I had more in the tank, I ran out of space there at the end but I was shooting to go right past him” said Coach Francisco as he spoke to another client about how he let his little brother beat him in this race.

Next was Margery finished 3rd woman overall, winning masters division easily in a time of 22:58 (7:24 per mile). She strength at the finish is unmatched for anyone in the same masters division. Look out for this strong runner on the next race.

Leah closed the race the hardest we have seen in a long while finishing in 24:59. Breaking her goal time of 25 minutes by just one second with all her kids witnessing how hard she ran, setting such a great examples of how hard work pays off.

Brad ran 27:13 (8:46 pace) but what made this such a great time for him was that he recently came back from one of his first injury. To be back running well enough to race is a wonderful thing. Watch our for Brad as he continues through this season.

Trevor came next with a time of 34:56. After talking with his running coach and running team, he set a new goal of breaking 30minutes for the 5k this season! Watch out!

Amanda, Sunflower loving runner, kept a strong pace throughout the race finishing 36:54. She is working on a new time this season to improve her time to under 35:30 in the upcoming race.

Maggie ran such a great time 39:59 not only did sh she brought out her family to participate and enjoy a great sunday morning.

Vinny ran 44:50 in the 5k. He wants to improve his time so this season he is committed to include more running to round out the fit potato adult crew.

Also, FIT Potato Kids Noah, Josey and his brother attacked the mile KIDS run which they all ran between 7 and 8 minutes in the mile. Next year Sunflower run will be another great event for these kids to keep seeing improvement. Maybe next year they will do the 5k too!

Lets keep working hard! Next race is Mammoth 5k and half marathon. Followed by Run San Ramon 4th July Run.

Dad & Son Duo Run Devil Mt. Run Danville CA

dad and son run 5k at devil mt. run danville ca
Alejandro & Dad posing for camera after just crossing the finish line of Devil Mt. Run 5k 2019

Having a supportive parent is one thing but having a parent that is willing to run a 5k with you is another!

Huge props to dad for that.

Oscar started training. In order to prepare for the Devil Mt. Run 5k he started getting up early to run 3-5 miles before driving to San Jose for work. He had to get the run done in the morning because he also has to commute 1.5 hours back home so running late night wasn’t an option.

This is a great way to look at the concept of FINDING YOUR….WHY… Oscar and I talked a few weeks before the Devil Mt. Run and I shared with him how important and special it would be for him to run with his son Alejandro.

Oscar is one of those dads that is willing to support his son not just by saying it but showing him and you can see this in Alejandro’s face. JUST LOOK how happy Alejandro is after finishing the 5k at the wonderful and well prepared Devil Mt. Run.

Alejandro & Dad smiling at the finish of Devil Mt. Run 5k 2019

Now all I have to say is look out for this DAD/SON Duo! This season is all about getting out there and making experiences happen!

Sincerely,

-Coach Juan

FIT Potato Takes Devil Mt. Run

Devil Mt. Run May 5th 2019 5k/10k Recap

How well did it go???

How about….7 Fit Potatoes in the top 20!

excited running team before the devil mt run 5k
running team smiles for picture before devil mt run 2019

First we start off with the battle of the Z.H’s, yup you heard it right! These two FIT Potatoes are Zac Holtz & Zac Holt going 1st and 2nd place, earning them their 5th straight year of keeping the win between the Z’s! Totally Awesome guys!

Yannick Bercy, Ricardo Escobar, Juan Gomez, Robert Martinez, & Francisco Gomez headed the chase back behind the Z’s going out in 5:35 mile pace together. Francisco went out with a great start and as soon as Ricardo saw it, he rushed to get near him and Yannick followed Ricardo. Juan was working up the pace to catch up to those fast starters! Robert followed behind Juan as he later joined Francisco and Ricardo to keep it a nice tight 2nd mile (thus far putting 7 guys in the top 20 in the race).

Sam Fomin was chasing down the other teams youngsters hoping to earn an age group medal. Margery Conner, the Boston Marathon finisher, came next as she steadied her pace to always a great finish. She is one of the most consistent and competitive runner we have, she always gets a medal in her age group

Brian fletcher came out swinging on in this years race as he improved 2minutes from his last 5k. Alex Franco worked up some steam to hang with Brian as Ali Martinez was close on their heals. Ryan Mordoff, the talent, making up time in the 2nd mile after starting behind the strollers, a mistake he later explained to his coach. There is always something to learn from these 5k races and of course the Devil Mt. Run is one of the best place to test your race tactics. Next was Kara Lee running her very best after a track meet on Wednesday and staying up to celebrate one of her friends sweet 16th birthday, but she showed up and ran well.

Here comes Brad Henderson storming towards the last mile, after a few injuries that kept him from training properly for the 5k, but that didn’t stop him to earn a stellar time on a fast course like Devil Mt. run. Elisabeth Safari came next as she is a great track runner and has continued to work on her 5k ability, she loves to run Devil Mt. run because it challenges her speed!

Brandon Shumylo started in the back but was seen doing amazing agility, lateral, side to side moves around the slower runners and walkers. It was something that was great practice but it’s something he is going to improve for the next race and of course for Devil Mt. 2020! Claire Holton came next as she kept her pace steady for the majority of the race and then building up energy to finish well. Lashonda Jackson, one of the strongest runners, kept consistent all the way to the finish and with a big smile too!

Son & Father duo Alejandro Trampe and Oscar Trampe helped each other every mile to finish in a great fast time at the Devil Mt. run. It’s moments like these that make us stronger but also helps kids have someone to look up to, way to go Dad on being so supportive and participating. Amanda Barrett ran well today as her splits showed how even and consistent she ran. And you know the Devil Mt. run is such a fun race because she had a happy and bubbly smile at the finish line.

Mom and daughter combo Annie Roosa & Christine Roosa ran together to accomplish a new personal best for Annie, also someone in such happy spirits after the race.

Karen Bond the yogi & Nelia Soares rounded out the FIT Potato team as they walked/jogged the course for a very active Sunday morning, congrats ladies!

On to the 10k we had some really great times, including a two minute plus improvement from Antony Callistus to last years Devil Mt. Run. Anand Gopalan came next as he paced his way to a great Sunday morning 10k. A few minutes later Vineet Arora powered his way to the finish of the 10k. He felt happy and satisfied to be out there enjoying this wonderful 10k race.

Mile of truth racer and coach Jennifer Bayliss finished in a blazing 5:43 and 3rd place age group winner. It was exhilarating watching her duke it out with so many other quick milers! Thanks to the Devil Mt. Run for brining back the mile!

Thank you to all the supporting FIT Potatoes who came out to cheer and support us.

Raising Happy & Healthy Kids! MIT Research Study About Communication.

“Researchers at MIT, Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania found that one of the best things parents can do for their children is to have frequent back-and-forth exchanges with them”(Popomaronis).

“Findings suggest that doing this at an early age (typically between ages 4 to 6) will help develop, foster and improve communication” (Popomaronis).

“Studies have supported the idea that children with stronger communication skills are more likely to have healthier relationships, longer marriages, higher self-esteem and overall satisfaction in life”(Popomaronis).

As a coach, I’ve seen this in a group environment where a kid has to choose a team or a partner to do either a homework assignment or sports team. I always stress to parents that I am helping them communicate about what they want and where they wanna go with their ideas or goals. Everyday we make choices but if we cannot communicate effectively then I’ve seen them get paired up with someone or something that didn’t help them excel.

I agree that back-and-froth dialogue where you can have an exchange of thoughts, ideas, wants, needs or expectation really gives me the best way to help them achieve this health/fitness goal. Building rapport with a kid is based on communication. I’m happy to be able to help shape these kids mind on what they want and how to go for it through practice and effort on a daily basis.
